The Housing Services Case Manager provides case management and supportive services to assist clients in locating and securing permanent housing. The Housing Services Case Manager communicates with landlords, government entities and other housing providers to acquire knowledge of the affordable housing stock in the area. They help clients develop realistic program plans for finding suitable housing, and monitor client progress against goals.

The Housing Services Case Manager assists guest in assessing their strengths and needs, and facilitates the development of skills to support a successful housing search.

The Manager will assess referrals and make recommendations regarding acceptance of applicants to the Bayside program, then monitor clients and make recommendations regarding continuation in the program.

Duties

 Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution or a certificate of competence is preferred. Relevant experience providing case management services may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis up to two years. Must demonstrate ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing. Familiarity with motivational interviewing is helpful, though not required. Experience with Microsoft Office applications or other similar software applications is required. A valid driver’s license is required, and applicants must be at least 21 years of age.

Schedule, salary and benefits

This is a full-time position with flexible hourly requirements. The incumbent will be an emergency contact and may occasionally be required to assist outside normal working hours.

This is an hourly position in the salary range of $17- $20 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Benefits include participation in a health insurance plan and paid time off beginning after 90 days of satisfactory service.

There is a possibility for on-site housing with this position; living on-site is not required.

Reporting

The position reports to Bayside’s Managing Director, and assists in overseeing a half-time worker-training position. The Housing Services Case manager will have the opportunity to report operational performance directly to the Board of Directors.

About Bayside – A Unique Approach to Supportive Housing

Sitting vacant for years, the Old Alcohol Plant presented an opportunity to meet multiple needs – one building for community service, one for community gathering. We opened both buildings in 2016.

Based off models used by other organizations around the country modifying unused hotels to serve those in need, Bayside employs a unique partnership with the Old Alcohol Plant to lease hotel rooms that we then provide on an extended-stay basis to low-income individuals and couples facing homelessness.

The Old Alcohol Plant also offers market-rate hotel rooms, a restaurant and bar, and event spaces, with all for-profit operations meant to support the mission of Bayside.

Bayside residents sign lodging agreements for 28 days at a time, and can renew indefinitely at the discretion of staff, depending on a number of factors, including engagement level of the guest in finding a permanent housing solution.

Units consist of a private bedroom/living space and bathroom, as well as in-unit mini-fridges and microwaves. Guests have access to a community room for projects, gathering, and online research.

Priority is given to seniors, veterans, and underemployed or low-wage workers who need housing in order to retain employment.

Bayside offers personalized case management that includes assistance with filling out housing applications, scheduling and transportation for medical appointments, and navigating other social services that are related to independent living and securing long-term housing. We’re expanding our services to non-residents, and the Housing Services Case Manager will have the opportunity to shape our new programs.
